<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">...there was a priest named Zechariah, who belonged to
the priestly order of Abijah. His wife was a descendant of Aaron, and her name
was Elizabeth. Both of them were righteous before God, living blamelessly
according to all the commandments and regulations of the Lord. But they had no
children, because Elizabeth was barren, and both were getting on in years (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Lk 1:5-7</b>).<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

John the Baptist reads in part, “Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and
you will name him John. You will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice
at his birth” (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Lk 1:13-14</b>).<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">In today’s gospel, people who rejoiced at his birth became an
obstacle. With every good intention, they wanted the child to be named after
his father, Zechariah in line with their custom. But Elizabeth and Zechariah
followed God’s counsel which stands for ever, cf. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Ps 33:11</b>.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

deviated from the call, cf. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Matt 3:11; Jn
1:19-23; Acts 13:24-25; 19:4</b>. When it was reported to him that Jesus was
baptising and that all were going to Him, he replied, “He must increase, but I
must decrease” (cf. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Jn 3:30</b>).<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">We rejoice with Zechariah and Elizabeth today at the birth of
John because they waited for God’s time to a point all considered hopeless.
They never deviated from God’s will. Because the people were in expectation, it
would have been very easy for John to steal the stage but he did not, cf. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Lk 3:15</b>. Yet Jesus described him as the
greatest of all born of women, cf. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Lk

the way hard, but often the whole thing looks so stupid. Hence, many do not
find it, cf. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Matt 7:14</b>. Never forget
that “the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is
stronger than men” (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">1Cor 1:25</b>).
Never leave God’s will for any other. And be the best of the person God created

The primary purpose of this feast is to focus our attention on the Eucharist.
And secondary upon the Body of Christ as it is present in the Church. The
Church is called the Body of Christ because of the intimate communion which
Jesus shares with his disciples. This Feast is accompanied with public
Eucharistic processions, which serve as sign of common faith and adoration.</span><a href="file:///C:/Users/Fr.%20Moses/Desktop/fb/YEAR%20C%202018%20-%202019/Ordinary%20Time%20of%20the%20Year%20(C)/The%20Most%20Holy%20Body%20and%20Blood%20of%20Christ%20(C)%202019.docx" name="_ftnref2" style="mso-footnote-id: ftn2;" title=""><span class="MsoFootnoteReference"><span style="mso-special-character: footnote;"><span class="MsoFootnoteReference"><span style="font-family: "Calibri","sans-serif"; font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi; mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin;"><span style="color: blue;">[2]</span></span></span></span></span></a><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: large;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 2pt 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Jesus welcomed the crowd who
followed Him. He taught them and also healed those who needed to be cured. As
the day was drawing to a close, His disciples came up with this suggestion,
“Send the crowd away, so that they may go into the surrounding villages and
countryside, to lodge and get provisions; for we are here in a deserted place.”
But Jesus insisted, “You give them something to eat.” They were astonished and
said, “We had no more than five loaves and two fish – unless we are to go and
buy food for all these people.” They were about five thousand men. He made them
sit in groups of about fifty each. Jesus then took the five loaves and the two
fish, looked up to heaven, He blessed and broke them, and then gave them to the
disciples to share to them. In the end, “...all ate and were filled. What was
left over was gathered up, twelve baskets of broken pieces.”<span style="mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB;"> <o:p></o:p></span></span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 10pt 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: large;">Beyond the multiplication of loaves and fish as we see in
today’s gospel, Christ gave us His true Body and Blood for He said, “Take, eat;
this is my body” (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Matt 26:26; Mk 14:22;
Lk 22:19; 1Cor 11:24</b>). He also said while giving us the chalice, “Drink
from it, all of you; for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out
for many for the forgiveness of sins” (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Matt
26:27b-28; Mk 14:24</b>). He offered these for our salvation, cf. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Jn 10:11; 1Pt 2:24; Col 1:24</b>. No love
is greater, cf. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Jn 15:13</b>. Christ
asked us to replicate this love among ourselves, cf. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Jn 13:34. 15:12</b>. How then do we do this?</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 10pt 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: large;">It was half-way through the school year, and the principal
was lecturing the teachers during the faculty meeting. He presented a painful
list of all their failures, flaws and shortcomings. The list of transgressions
seemed endless. Then he announced that the science club was sponsoring a blood
drive, and that, to promote faculty involvement, he would donate the first pint
of blood.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 4pt 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: large;">An anxious voice from the rear of

</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 10pt 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: large;">The disciples wanted the crowd to be sent out to fend for
themselves but Jesus insisted that they give them something to eat. And that
voice that sought to know whose blood would be donated first in our story must
have wonderful excuse/s why it should not be his/hers. But when the disciples
listened to Jesus and offered those meagre loaves and fish, the crowd was fed
and what was left over filled twelve baskets. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 10pt 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: large;">Many die today untimely of lack of basic necessities. As we
celebrate the Corpus Christi today, Christ reminds us to offer ourselves for
these to live just as He offered Himself for us to live.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>Surely, we have different reasons but Christ
insists, “You give them something to eat.” If we listen to Him as the disciples
did, the world will move from <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Deficiency
to superfluous</b>. But it depends on us. As you eat the Body of Christ and
drink His Blood, He expects you to feed others with yours.</span></div>

was an Italian aristocrat who became a member of the Society of Jesus after a
four-year contest with his father who wanted him to be a military hero. While caring
for the victims of an epidemic that struck Rome in 1591, he caught the disease
and died a student. He was beatified on October 19, 1605, by Pope Paul V and
canonized on December 31, 1726 by Pope Benedict XIII, all in Rome. He is the
patron Saint of young students, Christian youth, Jesuit scholastics, the blind,

protect them from thieves. But sometimes they were either forgotten especially in
the case of death or eaten up my moths or rotten away if left for a very long

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 2pt 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">It is a common belief that the old law was, “An eye for an
eye and a tooth for a tooth” (cf. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Ex.
21:24-25</b>). In today’s gospel Jesus gave us a “new” law,<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 2pt 0in 0pt 0.7in; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Do not resist an evildoer. But if anyone strikes you on the
right cheek, turn the other also; and if anyone wants to sue you and take your
coat, give your cloak as well; and if anyone forces you to go one mile, go also
the second mile. Give to everyone who begs from you, and do not refuse anyone
who wants to borrow from you.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 10pt 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Strikingly, this law is not as new as we often think because
the Old Testament also has these, “You shall not take vengeance or bear any
grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbour
as yourself: I am the LORD” (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Lev 19:18</b>).
Why did He say this? God said, “Vengeance is mine, and recompense...” (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Deut 32:35</b>). And God has set a day of
vengeance, cf. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Is 34:8</b>.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 10pt 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">It must be the stubbornness of the people that mutilated
God’s message, cf. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Matt 19:8</b>. Saint
Paul rightly admonished us, “Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to
the wrath of God” (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Rom 12:19</b>). We
are certain of Him who said, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay.” And again, “The
Lord will judge his people” (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Heb 10:30</b>).
Let us leave everything to God as He commanded us from the beginning.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
