<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 2pt 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">In today’s gospel Peter, Andrew, James, and John were washing
their nets after all night fishing without success when Jesus came, entered into
Peter’s boat and taught the people from there. After His teaching Jesus said to
them, “Put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch.” Although
Peter expressed their ordeals, he went on to say “Yet if you say so, I will let
down the nets.” And “When they had done this, they caught so many fish that
their nets were beginning to break.” Peter pleaded with Jesus to leave them yet
He said to them, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching people.”<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Saint Patrick also had his own ordeals. Yet after regaining
his freedom and became a priest, he went back to the land of his captivity and
preached the gospel tirelessly. His apostolate was so much felt that he is not celebrated
in Ireland by the church alone but also by the entire country.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

things including setbacks, mistakes, anxieties, disappointments, difficulties,
and so on. Some of us have even terribly resigned to fate and cannot see any
future again. Today’s gospel and the life of the Saint Patrick encourage us to
listen to Jesus as He instructs us. Let no one be tied down by his/her past. God
still has better plans for you and me. He will do a new thing in our lives, cf.
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Is 43:19; Jer 31:22</b>. He only demands
us to obey Him like Peter and his colleagues and continue to move on after the

<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 2pt 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Imagine one promising a president’s son or daughter freedom
from slavery yet he/she still goes wherever he/she wants. This might help us
understand the scenario in today’s gospel in which Jesus said to the Jews who
had believed in him, “If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples;
and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” They protested,
“We are descendants of Abraham and have never been slaves to anyone. What do
you mean by saying, ‘You will be made free?’”<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 10pt 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Jesus went on to explain, “Very truly, I tell you, everyone
who commits sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not have a permanent place in
the household; the son has a place there forever.” In line with this, Saint
Paul writes to the Romans, “you were slaves of sin” (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Rom 6:20</b>).<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 10pt 0in 0pt;">

God or of the enemy, cf. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Rom 6:22; 7:4;

it is possible that some do not know where they belong.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 10pt 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">That one is baptized (born-again) is not a enough certificate
for heaven. Surely, the sacrament of baptism makes one among other things a
child of God. However, it is important to remember that one can lose this
position, cf. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Rom 6:18; Gal 5:1</b>. It is
important also to remember as we make choices that “the wages of sin is death,
but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Rom 6:23</b>). We are to live as free men and
women, yet without using our freedom as a pretext for evil; but to live as
servants of God, cf. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">1Pt 2:16</b>.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

whether God is still with us or not. The best way to answer this is through the
life we live. The Father is always with the Son because the Son always does what
is pleasing to Him. Do we always please God through our actions? If yes, God is
still with us, if not we must repent now because we are also going away. And the
life we live now determines where we are going – heaven or hell, cf. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Dan 12:2</b>.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 2pt 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Jesus testified in today’s gospel, “I am the light of the
world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light
of life.” Jesus also said to His apostles, “You are the light of the world” (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Matt 5:14</b>).<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 10pt 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Light is meant among other things to give light to people,
cf. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Matt 5:15; Mk 4:21; Lk 8:16. 11:33</b>.
However, the presence of light is one thing and accessing it is yet another.
Hence we read, “but if your eye is not sound, your whole body will be full of
darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!” (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Matt 6:23</b>).<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

cf. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">1Jn 2:9-10</b>. Whoever walks in the
darkness does not know where he/she goes, cf. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Jn 12:35</b>. Let us therefore follow Jesus, the Light of the world to

<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 2pt 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: large;">In today’s gospel, Jesus returned
to the temple where He was in yesterday’s gospel early in the morning from the
Mount of Olives. He was teaching when the scribes and the Pharisees brought a
woman to Him, made her stood before all and asked Him, “Teacher, this woman was
caught in the very act of committing adultery. Now in the law Moses commanded
us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” Jesus bent down and wrote on the
ground with His finger. After pestering Him for some time He said to them, “Let
anyone among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” After
that He continued writing on the ground. And when He raised His head again, they
had all gone starting from the eldest. Jesus finally discharged the woman saying,
“Neither do I condemn you. Go your way, and from now on do not sin again.”</span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 10pt 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: large;">The gospel captured their intention very well: “They said
this to test him, so that they might have some charge to bring against him”. Otherwise
some questions beg for answers: Since these men caught her in the very act, where
was her partner? Or was it a replica of what happened to Susanna in <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Daniel chapter 13</b>? Again, why their unexpected
disappearance when Jesus said to them, “Let anyone among you who is without sin
be the first to throw a stone at her”? Not even the youngest among them could
stand the test. Or could it be that adultery is the worst sin someone could
commit?</span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 10pt 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: large;">These men only tried to use Moses’ name to cover their evil
intention. What Moses commanded them in law is, “If a man commits adultery with
the wife of his neighbour, both the adulterer and the adulteress shall be put
to death” (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Lev 20:10</b>). So if they were
acting according to law, once again where was the woman’s partner? The law also
reads, “You shall do no injustice in judgment; you shall not be partial to the
poor or defer to the great, but in righteousness shall you judge your
neighbour” (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Lev 19:15</b>). Again, “You
shall not be partial in judgment; you shall hear the small and the great alike;
you shall not be afraid of the face of man, for the judgment is God's...” (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Deut 1:17</b>).</span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 10pt 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: large;">In the Law, the emphasis is clear, “keep all my statutes and
all my ordinances, and do them” (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Lev
20:22</b>). And in the book of Deuteronomy, we also read, “You shall therefore
keep all the commandment which I command you this day, that you may be strong”
(<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Deut 11:8; cf. Deut 27:1; 30:8; cf. 1Kg
6:12</b>). So, why did they single out adultery? Your opinion I suppose is as
good as mine. Jesus said to the Pharisees, “Now you Pharisees clean the outside
of the cup and the dish, but inside you are full of greed and wickedness. You
fools! Did not the one who made the outside make the inside also?” (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Lk 11:39-40</b>). The same God who forbids that
sin others do which you consider as worse also forbids those ones you do.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 10pt 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: large;">God expects us all to keep all the commandments and not some.
Calculating those one is better off is just engaging in a bad consolation
theology that will not lead one to anywhere. Hence, Jesus teaches “Whoever then
relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be
called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them
shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven” (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Matt 5:19</b>). Again, Saint James writes, “whoever keeps the whole law
but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it” (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Jas 2:10</b>). One must therefore finish with the debris in his/her own
house before looking for those to stone because of cobwebs. Again, God is a
merciful God (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Deut 4:31</b>). Like the
pious man we saw in our introductory story, just as one should not kill another
because he/she is a sinner, it is not good to kill oneself because of sin. God
always has packages as long as life remains. Let us continue to struggle
because our brothers and sisters all over the world are in the same battle, cf.
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">1Pt 5:9</b>. Judgement without mercy
awaits all who judge others without mercy, cf. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Jas 2:13</b>. But we must take God’s package very fast before it
becomes too late.</span></div>

<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 2pt 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">While embarking on any journey one must be prepared for some
challenges. Our journey towards God is not exempted. Two challenges stand out
in today’s gospel, authority and knowledge.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 10pt 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Among the people who listened to Jesus some said, “This is
really the prophet” and for others, “the Messiah.” Yet others questioned,
“Surely the Messiah does not come from Galilee, does he? Has not the scripture
said that the Messiah is descended from David and comes from Bethlehem, the
village where David lived?” They never knew that Jesus is both a Bethlehemite
and a descendant of David, cf. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Matt 1:1-16,
20; 2:1; Lk 2:1-7</b>. <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 10pt 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">On the other hand, the chief priests and the Pharisees queried
the temple police who returned without Jesus, “Surely you have not been
deceived too, have you? Has any one of the authorities or the Pharisees
believed in him?” They suddenly turned these groups of men into other Simon
Peters, cf. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Matt 16:19</b>.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 10pt 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Authorities and/or knowledge can either facilitate or impede
journey towards God. Hence, the book of Proverbs reads, “When the righteous are
in authority, the people rejoice; but when the wicked rule, the people groan” (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Prov 29:2; </b>cf. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Prov 28:12</b>). And through the prophet Hosea God laments, “My people
are destroyed for lack of knowledge” (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Hos
4:6</b>). <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 10pt 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">We must be very careful in identifying and handling obstacles
on our way towards God. Again, let us not constitute obstacle/s for others. And
we must ask God for true knowledge that will enable us know Him better.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 2pt 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">The gospel tells us how Jesus went to the festival of Booths
(Tabernacles). In the temple people were discussing about Jesus’ identity.
Jesus cried out while teaching, <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 2pt 0in 0pt 0.7in;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">You know me, and you know where I am from. I have not come on
my own. But the one who sent me is true, and you do not know him. I know him,
because I am from him, and he sent me (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Jn
7:28-29</b>). <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 10pt 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">In all the gospels, Jesus is always certain of His identity.
Hence, although most of the Jews including His own brothers never believed in Him
yet He was never deterred (cf. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Jn 7:5</b>).<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 10pt 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Sometimes people wait for those to discover them and/or to
give them opportunity. Remember the true saying, where there is a will there is
a way. What each person needs most is self-realisation and not those to
discover and/or to give opportunity. One should thank God however if he/she has
the privilege of having people who understand him/her but if not that is not the
end of the road. Saint Paul likened what we have to treasures in earthen
vessels, cf. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">2Cor 4:7</b>. Jesus never
waited for any human being not even His brothers. Break your shell, come out,
and rise to better the world.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Topic: True testimonies.<o:p></o:p></span></span></b></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 2pt 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">We remember the popular saying, <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Vox populi Vox Dei</i></b>
meaning that the voice of people is the voice of God. And it is normally very hard
for one to make any person see a loophole in this saying.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 10pt 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">In today’s gospel however, Jesus tells us, “I do not accept
glory from human beings.” Although He knew that John correctly testified to the
truth yet He only made reference to that just for the salvation of the people.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 10pt 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Quite contrary to what we see today Jesus goes on, <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 2pt 0in 0pt 0.7in;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">But I have a testimony greater than John’s. The works that
the Father has given me to complete, the very works that I am doing, testify on
my behalf that the Father has sent me. And the Father who sent me has himself
testified on my behalf (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Jn 5:36-37a</b>).
<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 10pt 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">The prophet Jeremiah warns “Let everyone beware of his
neighbour, and put no trust in any brother; for every brother is a supplanter,
and every neighbour goes about as a slanderer” (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Jer 9:4; cf. Mic 7:5</b>). In the gospel we read, “When he was in
Jerusalem during the Passover festival, many believed in his name because they
saw the signs that he was doing. But Jesus on his part would not entrust
himself to them, because he knew all people” (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Jn 2:23-24</b>).<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 10pt 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">We must remember that “the mind that is set on the flesh is
hostile to God; it does not submit to God's law, indeed it cannot” (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Rom 8:7</b>). God “is a sun and shield; he
bestows favour and honour. No good thing does the LORD withhold from those who
walk uprightly” (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Ps 84:11; cf. Ps 62:7</b>).
God and what we do are the true testimonies. So let us trust in God and do our
work. We must “seek the glory that comes from the one who alone is God?”<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
