Father in today’s gospel, Philip asked to see the Father. Jesus replied,<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do
not know me? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.... Do you not believe
that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I
do not speak on my own; but the Father who dwells in me does his works.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

assures that whoever believes in Him will do greater works and also promised,
“I will whatever you ask in my name.... If in my name you ask me for anything,

assurance that we will receive whatever we ask but remembered that we reflected
on that not quite long ago. that say and do the things that he/she does.’ What one does determines his/her father,

important for each of us to find out today the true father in him/her (whose child

<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe
also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If it were not
so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 10pt 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">He also assured us of a place in the mansion. To Thomas who confessed
that they knew neither where He was going nor the way Jesus said, “I am the
way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through
me.”<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">We remember one of our favourite verses, “What no eye has seen,
nor ear heard, nor the heart of man conceived, what God has prepared for those
who love him” (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">1Cor 2:9, cf. Is 64:3</b>).
Are Jesus’ words of consolation necessary?<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Jesus warned, “If they persecuted me, they will persecute
you; if they kept my word, they will keep yours also” (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Jn 15:20</b>). And again, “If they have called the master of the house
Beelzebul, how much more will they malign those of his household” (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Matt 10:25</b>). And in sum Jesus
cautioned, “For the gate is narrow and the way is hard, that leads to life, and
those who find it are few” (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Matt 7:14</b>).<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 10pt 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Jesus had passed through this stage that we are before us, cf.
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Heb 4:15</b>. He tells us today and forever,
not be troubled at the face of undesirable things we might meet on the road. What
is kept in heaven cannot be compared with the difficulties on the road, cf. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Matt 5:11-12; Rom 8:18; 1Pt 4:13</b>.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

world. Whoever rejects Him and does not receive His word will be judged on the

active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and
spirit, of joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the

“How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us

<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Asking questions is very important in life. In the book of
Deuteronomy we read, “Remember the days of old, consider the years of many
generations; ask your father, and he will show you; your elders, and they will
tell you” (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Deut 32:7</b>). The Israelites
landed themselves in a mess because they did not ask question, cf. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Josh 9:3-14</b>. And knowledge gives life to
its possessor, cf. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Eccl 7:12b</b>. Hence,
God lamented that His people are destroyed for lack of knowledge, cf. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Hos 4:6</b>.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 10pt 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 110%;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">At the face level, one might conclude that the Jews put those
questions to Jesus for them to know the truth that would set them free, cf. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Jn 8:32</b>. However, it is important to recall
that they often asked Jesus questions just to test Him, cf. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Matt 16:1. 22:35; Mk 10:2; Jn 8:1-6</b>. Hence,
Jesus who knows everything said to them, “I have told you, and you do not
believe. The works that I do in my Father’s name testify to me; but you do not
believe, because you do not belong to my sheep” cf. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Jn 16:30</b>. The rest of today’s gospel (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Jn 10:27-30</b>) was read two days ago. <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

desist from using them just as weapons against others. The Jews remained in their

is the gate for us, His sheep. Ones safety is guaranteed only by entering
through Christ. Borrowing the words of Jesus Christ, others are thieves. And
Jesus told us their mission: “The thief comes only to steal and kill and
destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: large;">A string ensemble was rehearsing for their concert at a
downtown church. The evening’s programme included a wonderful piece for the
oboe. The oboist was exceptionally talented, but for some reason, the music
sounded terrible.</span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 10pt 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: large;">The leader of the ensemble insisted that the oboe was out of
tune, so the oboist adjusted the reed of her instrument to bring it in tune
with the other instruments. But the music continued to sound distorted and out
of key. The other musicians were becoming increasingly critical and impatient.
After several attempts, the leader proposed that the oboe part be dropped from
the piece.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: large;">An elderly gentleman was sitting in the church during the
ensemble’s rehearsal. He quietly went to the leader during a break in their
practice and said, “Please forgive my intruding, but don’t orchestras tune
their instruments to the oboe?” The members of the ensemble were dumbfounded.
They had overlooked a basic performance principle: an oboe sounds the proper
pitch – it was the other instruments, tuned to one another, that were out of
tune. When the other musicians tuned their instruments to the oboe, the music

that He died for us, <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Rom 5:8;</b> <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">1Cor 15:3; 1Thess 5:10</b>. He came that we
may have life, and have it abundantly, cf. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Jn
10:10</b>. In the Old Testament, the Psalmist warns, “Know that the LORD is
God! It is he that made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of
his pasture” (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Ps 100:3; cf. Ps 74:1</b>).
And God also spoke through the prophet Ezekiel, “And you are my sheep, the
sheep of my pasture, and I am your God, says the Lord GOD” (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Ezek 34:31; cf. Jer 23:1</b>).</span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 10pt 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><span style="mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;">Today’s
gospel forms part of Jesus’ response to the Jews who came to Him and asked:
“How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us
plainly” (<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Jn 10:24</b>). And in today’s
gospel Jesus said to them: “My sheep hear my voice. I know them, and they
follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish.”<o:p></o:p></span></span></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 10pt 0in 0pt;">
<span style="mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;"><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: large;">It might be difficult to see anyone who will admit that he/she is not
Christ’s sheep. In Christ’s response to the Jews we see listening to His voice
and following Him as distinguishing characteristics of Christ’s sheep. Based on
these, we ask: ‘How many listen to Christ’s voice toady?’ Again, ‘Do we really follow
Christ?’ </span></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 10pt 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: large;">And just like the musicians in our introductory part who expected
the oboe to be tuned to other instruments, to worsen the situation we want
Christ to listen to us and to follow us. It never worked for the ensemble
because other instruments are to be tuned to the oboe. Similarly, we are to
listen to Christ and to follow Him and not the reverse. And until we do our
part, the harmony that ought to exist between Christ, the good Shepherd and His
sheep will continue to elude us. A sheep can never be the shepherd of its
shepherd, cf. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Matt 10:24</b>.</span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 10pt 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: large;">Again, a shepherd in Scotland when asked if his sheep would
follow the voice of a stranger replied: “Yes, when they are sick; but never
when they are well. asked the twelve, ‘Do you also wish to go away?’” And to this Peter replied,
“Lord, to whom can we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to

the gospel of Christ. Whoever is lying for whatever reason in the name of
preaching can only best preach the devil, who “is a liar and the father of lies”

ought to look for Jesus Christ who is the truth and not for God’s ministers. Minsters
have no reason to lie in the name of preaching. Only the truth will set us

His audience disputed, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” And Jesus emphatically
